Is Upselling Customers Legit? Find out all the Truth About Upsells

May 10, 2016 2 Comments

If you have been online for some time trying to find a way to make a buck I think you already know what upselling means. If you don’t know what it means, I would like to give you some brief info so you know what I’m going to talk about.

Upselling is a common practice and almost all companies selling products or providing services are upselling their customers. Upselling is when a seller sends an offer to their customers trying to convince them to buy more expensive items, upgrades or anything that can make a seller more money.

Upselling is not always bad and I think it will always be part of any business. But when it comes to money making niche or internet marketing upselling is something that I hate and I believe most people are of the same opinion.

Like I said above, if you have been trying to make a buck online for some time and purchased a couple programs that promised to make you rich overnight you already know what I’m going to talk about.

I think you agree that it’s by far not the best feeling when you buy a product that claims to show you a shortcut to success only to be notified that you still need to buy some other great products that will unlock the full potential of the core product.

I’m sure you know this feeling and it’s really annoying and I would say misleading technique and that’s why I hate upsells.

Keep reading and I will share some thoughts with you and I believe you will have a better understanding of what is going on behind the scenes and why most internet marketers are trying to upsell you instead of helping you achieve your online financial dreams and goals.

My experience with upsells

I’ve been online for a few years now and I’ve started making money on a regular basis since 2015. I have several websites, some of which are successful and others are not. Those that are unsuccessful, it’s due to some misatkes that I made in the initial stages of my online career.

Now I know what works and what doesn’t and it all comes with experience. I’m planning to launch a couple of other sites too soon. I use both free and paid traffic methods, such as SEO, PPC, social advertising – Facebook ads.

Before I achieved a certain level of success online I was like you looking for programs that promised to make me rich overnight. All of them were either total craps or delivered very little value.

I was purchasing course after course, PDF guides etc., and none of them helped me achieve anything or make at least a few bucks per month. But all of them have had one thing in common:

  • They all promised to show me a shortcut to success
  • After buying the core product I was offered several upsells
  • All of them promised that achieving success will be much easier if I buy their upsells
  • I was unable to achieve success even after buying their upsells
  • Support was not as good as it should be

Endless upsells

I think upselling though it’s a common practice is not the best strategy you can use in order to build trust with your audience.

I personally disagree with this practice when it comes money making niche because people that are looking for a genuine program want to see results and they need supreme support in order to achieve their online goals.

Instead of that they buy product after product and then can’t get quality support and that’s the main reason why they give up quickly. Most internet marketers are making money thanks to upselling their customers.

If you spend more time and read more info on internet marketing you will realize that most internet marketers or so called internet gurus have one simple goal.

They want to get your email address and prossibly get you to buy one of their products and once they have done it they start sending you multiple emails with various offers.

This scenario is very common. We know that money is in the list and that’s why all internet marketers are struggling to build a list of subscribers and then start upselling them.

They don’t even know you enough, they don’t know if you have achieved success with the previous upsell and yet they keep sending you new offers every other week in the hope that you will buy one of their promotions.

They choose appealing titles for their emails, something like this: “Find out how I went from zero to hero or how I made $15.765 in 3 days”.

I think this is all total BS. Most of the time it doesn’t work. Most people don’t know all the truth about making money online. They don’t know that making money online is not easy at all.

It takes time and effort before you can start seeing a solid income on a regular basis. But most so called internet gurus never tell you this truth because they want you to believe that making money oline is super easy and once you buy all their upsells success will come in a matter of a few days.

And unfortunately, this process never stops. Once you are on their list you will be receiving new offers every week until they leave you without your pants.

That’s why I think you should stay away from those that try to upsell you before they even know you in person.

Many people unsubscribe from their list, but those internet gurus don’t care because they work hard on getting new people on their list and then they start to upsell new subscribers until some of them unsubscribe. This process will never stop because people want to make money. As simple as that.

Is there any way to upsell your customers the right way?

What I said above doesn’t mean that I’m against building an email list or upselling your customers. As I said above, upselling is a common practice. All I said was that when it comes to money making niche, upselling should be done the right way. It should be done ethically.

Of course, you can send your subscribers some new offers, let’s say tools that use to make money online or a program that you feel can really help your customers achieve success.

But even if you send your subscribers a good offer, but the product owner makes unrealistic claims, you MUST tell your subscribers honestly that claims are exaggerated and they shouldn’t expect quick results. Unfortunately, most internet marketers don’t do that.

They send offers after offers in the hope that someone from their list will buy their upsell and many people buy them. In fact, many of them buy upselss only to realize that they wasted their hard earned money again and again.

I think as an internet marketers our main focus should be on people, not money. If we can achieve success we must help others achieve the same if we can because these people need our help and advice. We shouldn’t send them endless upsells trying to make more money off of them.

We should send them one good offer and try to help them achieve success with that offer. Because what is the sense of sending multiple offers if they can’t achieve success with any of them?

Life without upsells

Do you think life without upsells is possible? Yes, it is. Like you I was struggling online and finally in 2013 I came across a program that was absolutely different from all other programs I’ve come across over the past 3 years.

I first registered a free, starter account for one week and then decided to upgrade to a premium account. I paid a membership monthly fee and was surprised to find out that there were no any upsells inside the members area. Can you imagine that? No upsells whatsoever.

I paid $19 for the first month and then I had to pay $47 for each month after that which was a little expensive for me.

I decided to choose yearly one time payment of $359 and in this scenario one month cost me $29 which was fantastic. This price included EVERYTHING:

  • High quality training
  • Weekly live classes
  • Private messaging
  • Websites
  • Web-hosting
  • Live chat
  • Free text tutorials and video classes on various topics related to internet marketing
  • Keyword research tool
  • Networking with other successful internet marketers
  • Getting support from the owners of the program
  • Support from other members

Believe me or not, but this price includes EVERYTHING. You will never see any upsells because upsells or any sort of promotions are strictly prohibited inside the members area.

And thanks to this program I’ve finally started making money on a regular basis and in a few days I’m planning to quit my job. Not because I’m making thousands of dollars per month. Not yet.

But I’m already making a few hundred bucks per month and I’m on the truck. By the end of this year my monthly income will allow me to fully support my family.

Life without upsells is possible and it’s real. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars before you start making money. You just need to stick to the right program.

You can create your free, starter account and enjoy the life without upsells. No strings. No credit card required.

So, upselling customers is legit, but you need to do it the right way. If you do it the right way and with your customers in mind then you won’t have any problems. Believe me or not, but you can make enough money online without upselling anyone.

    Hi Rufat,
I have been hearing about upsells for a while now but hardly understood what it was. It is great that WA does not do it to it’s members.
To me it sounds like some kind of entrapment because you contantly do something because you are told you will rip a certain benefit only to find out that you have to do even more.
What were some of the things you did wrong as a beginner? I am new and need to learn as much as I can. I know I am going to make mistakes if I haven’t yet but I will like to reduce the number.
I will try to stay clear of upselling my customers as much as possible and take your advice about telling the truth.

In fact, it’s the best part of this program that makes it different from all other programs out there. I agree how you describe the situation with upsells. It’s really annoying and it looks like all internet marketers are trying to build a list and then upsell you. They claim that it’s the best business model while I can’t agree with this view. I think it’s better to make a membership monthly affordable fee and provide supreme support instead of sending your customers endless upsells. As I beginner I can recommend you to stick to the community you’re part of and network with other successful people and success will come. If you need anything specific, you can shoot me a message and I will be happy to help you out.
